I have been an independent real estate appraiser since 1960, specializing in income and special purpose properties, including airport, transportation, textile and furniture, bankruptcy, environmental, ROW, and estate matters. I have received approvals for the Society of Real Estate Appraisers' and the American Institute of Real Estate Appraiser’s admissions, and for my own staff appraisers, as well as for banks and regulatory agencies, including RTC.
Because my office is located in High Point, NC, the furniture capital of the world, I have a great deal of experience in appraising furniture showrooms, a truly unique real estate market. Although furniture showrooms could be called my specialty, I have increasingly been called on to value properties - residential and industrial - with environmental problems; clients perceive that, also, as a specialty. In addition, I have appraised all types of properties for acquisition by the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority, Greensboro, NC as it grew from under 500 acres in 1967 to over 5,000 acres in 1998.
Each appraisal in this office is tailored to the characteristics of the assignment and unusual properties are, perhaps, our greatest specialty. Adherence to the professional ethics and standards of major national appraisal organizations as well as ongoing educational opportunities are everyday priorities.
Professional appraisal designations and continuing education:
MAI and SRA member of the Appraisal Institute - To maintain my voluntary education status, I chose to acquire 100 hours of continuing education credit every five years, including the Appraisal Institute's Standards of Professional Practice and successful completion of the corresponding examinations.
ASA member of the American Society of Appraisers - One hundred hours, including successful completion of a 15-hour USPAP course and one exam, are required for a full five-year accreditation. As a Senior Member, I could be exempt from this requirement and could still keep my ASA designation, I choose to stay abreast of current trends in the appraisal profession.
SR/WA member of the International Right of Way Association - I voluntarily meet the 75-hour continuing education requirement every five years.
CERTIFIED APPRAISER - I am a certified appraiser in North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina
